Note

An ever growing list of games that either mean a lot to me or are just great games worth talking about / playing.

Monster Sanctuary

Monster taming meets metroidvania. Collect, train and battle monsters in a lovely side-scroller pixel world.

Comment

If you like strategy turn-based monster catching RPGs like Pokemon and Digimon then this game is definitely worth a try. It's warpped up neatly in a metroidvania and has a lot of content making it well worth the price.

Halo Reach

Noble Team must stand and face a full scale planetary invasion with humanity's fate hanging desperately in the balance.

Comment

Halo very rarely shows the dark side of the war agaisnt the Covenant. Reach tells a compelling story that doesn't overstay its welcome. It isn't perfect, it does the book and the characters kinda dirty. But the gun play, forge, custom game modes all made it worth while. The main reason it's a favourite though is the ending. Current Objective: Survive.

Project Silverfish

Explore a hostile, living world: Uncover forgotten horrors, both man-made and supernatural, as you hunt for exotic artifacts.

Comment

This game isn't finished and it isn't worth the cost in its currnet state. With that said it is worth keeping an eye on if you want more S.T.A.L.K.E.R gameplay. It is punishing and has a perma death mode that I feel is the best way to play. Go into the world, survive as best you can. And when you die? Try again. I've got a soft spot for anything eldritch or weird and this game has plenty of that too.

GTFO

Stealth, strategy, and teamwork are necessary to survive in your deadly, underground prison. Work together or die together.

Comment

Too many videogames hold your hand. GTFO just cuts it off instead. It is brutal, challenging, and yet I love it. It forces you to cooperate with others while also prooving that you can hold your own. Imagine DOOM, but you're not the doom slayer. The learning curve is insanely steep but it is worth mastering. Pick it up if you like to challenge yourself.

YOMI HUSTLE

Master your technique, execute flashy combos, and outsmart opponents across the world, frame-by-frame.

Comment

What if you turned a 2D fighter into turn-based chess? Well you get YOMI Hustle! This game effectively lets you create those old stick-fight flash animations, and then when it is over? You get to watch it in real time! Play it with your friends.

Destiny 2

You are a Guardian, defender of the Last City in a solar system under siege by villains. Look to the stars and stand against the darkness.

Comment

I've spent over 3000 hours in Destiny 2. Was it worth it? Yes. Would I recommend the game today? No. The game has cut the original campaign and replaced it with a shit onboarding system that teaches you nothing. Ontop of asking you for nearly $400 AUD. Still, a lot of my best memories and achievements occured in this game.

Supervive

Slam into all-out, multi-squad teamfights in this lethal, fast-paced brawl in the sky.

Comment

Supervive has sadly died, Theorycraft Games failed to advertise it enough to get it off the ground. And man is that a shame. MOBA meets Battle Royale with actually interesting looking characters (Unlike Highguard or Concord) Each character had an interesting skill set too. God I miss playing void, high skill ceiling and endless potential. RIP Supervive.

Dispatch

Manage a dysfunctional team of misfit heroes and strategize who to send to emergencies around the city.

Comment

It'll never beat season 1 of The Walking Dead by Telltale Games. It is a little light on the gameplay. But it's story, cast, and music make it very fun. Honestly it is only here so I can actually recommend two songs. Radio by Bershy & Feel the Way I Do by Primer. Still, play the game you'll have a good time with it.

Cobalt Core

Dodge missiles, line up your cannons, and blast 'em out of the sky... Then get to the bottom of these time loops, before it's too late!

Comment

Really cute game that feels a lot like FTL in all the right ways, while also being unique in its own way. It is a sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder with a ton of style. Definitely a fun game worth playing when you've got some downtime. The soundtrack is also really good, so if you don't pick it up at least give the OST a listen.

SIGNALIS

Unravel a cosmic mystery, escape terrifying creatures, and scavenge an off-world government facility.

Comment

Psychological survival horror game with incredible graphics, music, and gameplay. It manages to be stressful and nerve-racking enough, without being absurdly scary or filled with unnecessary stuff. The puzzles are well-adjusted in a way the game always gives you enough clues, but still requires you to use your brain to figure out. Best of all the visual style and world building are just incredible.

* * *
Half Life 2

Reawakened from stasis in the occupied metropolis of City 17, Gordon Freeman is joined by Alyx Vance as he leads a desperate human resistance.

Comment

A 20 year old game that still holds up today. The fact people still say to go play it really speaks for itself. You might think that 'the hype can't be that good' but the hype was actually that good. The game is a classic and a masterpiece at the same time. The voice acting is great, the story and world are captivating, but best of all the game has some impressive physics for the age that it was made.

* * *
Hollow Knight

Beneath the fading town of Dirtmouth sleeps an ancient, ruined kingdom. Many are drawn below the surface, searching for answers to old secrets.

Comment

The game that redefined what a good 2D platformer & metrovania is. And to think it was made by three people that released a sequel no sooner than when it was ready. Team Cherry have made two awesome games and deserve all the respect in the world for doing so while respecting players. As usual everything in the game is high quality, from the music to the gameplay.

Subnautica

Subnautica is an underwater adventure game set on an alien ocean planet. A massive, open world full of wonder and peril awaits you!

Comment

I have agnostophobia and I struggle with the deep sea. This game was a struggle to play through, every meter down felt like pulling teeth and yet by the end I loved it. Very few games can make you that scared through atmosphere alone. I remember swimming next to a reaper leviathan that I didn't even know was there until it was too late. Absolutely terrifying, but fun and worth experiencing if you like exploring a truly alien world.
