Note
This section is just a place for me to share the games I really love. Below will be my Top 10 favourite games which I want to bring extra attention to. Whereas the favourites page will have a bunch of other games I also really enjoy.
Explore a beautiful, vast and ruined world riddled with dangers and lost technologies.
My Favourite Game
Fast and fluid combat paired with incredible music and pixel graphics. The art is breathtaking and the storytelling is unique in the fact that it takes "show, don't tell" to an 11. There is zero dialogue, and the story itself is up to one's own interpretation, giving everyone a unique experience by the time the credits roll.
Outer Wilds is a open world mystery about a solar system trapped in an endless time loop.
My Favourite Story
As everyone says: "Play it blind! Trust me, it's worth it by the end". And while I get that sentiment, you don't have to experience it blind; you can go in and enjoy what it has to offer just fine while looking things up. The game's theme is about discovery, exploration, and progression through understanding. But the message by the end of it? That'll stay with you regardless of wheather you looked things up or not.
Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror.
My Favourite Card Battler
One of the best card / deck building games I have ever played. Beyond the gameplay, the story is very, very captivating. Best experienced blind to get the most out of it. And if you still want more? There is an optional roguelike game mode called Kaycee's Mod you can play after the story concludes.
You are a nomadic slugcat, both predator and prey in a broken ecosystem. Grab a spear, hunt for food and surivve.
My Favourite Pixel Game
Most games are designed exactly for the abilities of the player and transparently feel that way. Rain World, on the other hand, is designed to make you feel like you are an intruder, that the world is not there for you. You are just an insignificant speck stumbling through an uncaring world. The game achieves such a feeling through its unique creature AI, procedural animation, a living ecosystem, and a world that is simulated in real-time everywhere at once.
You are to guide a child through a mysterious world on a mission to restore its long-dead sun. The world knows you exist.
My Favourite Meta Game
One of the best games that features meta elements. It splits the character you play from 'you' right at the start. It'll make you fall in love with the world, the people in it, and it'll break your heart. Another great game best experienced blind. And when you do finish it? Play it again, trust me, it's worth that second playthrough.
Players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuvering objects, and themselves, through space.
My Favourite Puzzle Game
Portal 1 is a masterclass in teaching the player mechanics with its earlier levels. While Portal 2 is a love letter to those players who wanted more from the world. It has incredible writing, jokes, & graphics that all still hold up nearly 20 and 15 years later, respectively. And then there are co-op, workshop, and community made maps. It is perfect.
Hunt your nightmares. A lone traveller. A cursed town. A deadly mystery that swallows everything it touches
My Favourite RPG
Unlike most FromSoftware games, BloodBorne takes a "less is more" approach. Every weapon is unique, and comes with its own 'trick' state giving each weapon its own flair. There are no throw-away bosses; everything has its place, a purpose. And because of that, it stands out from the rest. And now you can play it on PC! Look up ShadPS4 for more info on that.
Run a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge.
My Favourite Roguelike
FTL is one of the quintessential roguelike games. It is a testament to the brilliance of design over budget. It feels and looks so simple, and it is! And yet it has its complexities that make it very difficult. But when you finally win, beat the odds, and make it to sector 8? God, is it good, it feels earnt, rewarding. Not to mention all the different playable ships, the soundtrack, and the free DLC, too. This game will spoil you.
Explore a strange world full of colorful friends and foes. When the time comes, the path you've chosen will determine your fate.
My Favourite Horror Game
This game isn't perfect. It drags on by the end, but it is impactful, and it does have a message worth hearing. It tackles some heavy themes, and it has its fair share of trigger warnings to go with it. But if you can get past all that? Its story, world, and turn-based gameplay are all incredible. But the main reason it's on this list is that it hit close to home for me.
My Favourite MOBA
As someone who has played a fair few hours in MOBAs and a fair few more in movement shooters. I never knew I needed a combination of both. This is the game that Overwatch and Rivals fear at night. The fact there is already so much third-party content from fans for an invite-only alpha really shows how loved this game already is. If you have any interest in MOBAs or shooters, get yourself an invite code and play it. You will not be disappointed.
