Note

These are going to be placed alphabetically. Each artist will have a maximum of 10 songs listed. Some lists might be ordered from most to least favourite, others might ordered based off of the album. A few of these artists are favourites from when I was growing up, it's really just a mixed bag of artists I like.

A Perfect Circle
  1. Weak And Powerless
  2. Passive
  3. The Hollow
  4. Imagine
  5. So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish
  6. Pet
  7. Blue
  8. The Outsider
  9. 3 Libras
  10. Fiddle And The Drum

Better than Tool

A Perfect Circle isn't quite as heavy as Tool, which for me is perfect. I love Thirteenth Step for being a concept album around the struggles of addiction. eMOTIVe has some incredible songs like Imagine which takes a positive song and turns it inside out, giving it a much darker side. And Mer De Noms is just perfect from start to finish. Eat The Elephant isn't as good as their older works but I still love the style it has. Definitely start with Mer De Noms though.

Aviators
  1. No One Will Save You
  2. Number Nine
  3. Teeth
  4. Dystopian Fiction
  5. Fading Light
  6. Angel of the Dark
  7. Remains
  8. God Hunter
  9. The Far Side
  10. Let There Be Fire

More than just a love letter to media

Aviators makes fan music for various games, shows, and movies. And yet each song isn't just thermatically fitting, they are also grounded in the lore of the universe it's taking inspiration from. It takes some real talent to pull that off consistently and it shows a level of respect for the source material that I really apprecaite. Dystopian Fiction gets a special mention for beign the song that made me realise how much I loved this band. And Teeth perfectly captures the feeling and themes of Beastars which is really impressive.

Bad Omens
  1. Kingdom of Cards
  2. Running in Circles
  3. Careful What You Wish For
  4. Mercy
  5. Said & Done
  6. Burning Out
  7. If I'm There
  8. The Worst In Me
  9. Limits
  10. Come Undone

The Beauty of a Heavy Metal Choir

Bad Omens is heavy metal done right. It's equally abrasive and yet beautiful. Their album 'Finding God Before God Finds Me' has this symphonic rock style that gives me chills every time I listen to it. I don't like my heavy metal to be heavy from start to finish, it needs to flow with highs and lows. And Bad Omens has a style that perfectly captures that feeling. It's very akin to Rise Against and Bring Me the Horizon, so if you liked their stuff, give this a try.

Bo Burnham
  1. That Funny Feeling
  2. The Chicken
  3. Straight White Man
  4. Look Who's Inside Again
  5. From God's Perspective
  6. 1985
  7. All Eyes On Me
  8. Feel Good
  9. Art Is Dead
  10. Are You Happy?

The curse of talent

Bo Burnham is as authentic as it gets when it comes to talent. He is honest about his acts, about his shows and his music. He makes it clear and yet it's so easy to loose sight of that fact. He pulls you in and takes you for a ride. His comedy shows are all worth watching, and his music is incredibly thought provoking despite being comedic. From God's Perspective is a song with an incredible message, That Funny Feeling is a perfectly succinct encapsulation of the state of society and the world in modern day. And then there is The Chicken. A song about a joke that is well over 100 years old, why did the chicken cross the road? And yet the song itself manages to be sorrowful and meaningful, creatively complex and yet still a little comedic. There are very few artists like Bo, go watch his special 'What.' on YouTube, its free.

  10. Toxic

Making the ukulele work

I'm not too into songs talking about cheating, ex partners or anything around that topic. A lot of his music follows that tune, and while I don't relate to the lyrics, I do like the sound of the songs and the music videos that come along with them. Plus his music videos tend to have an element of humor to them which is always nice.

Brian David Gilbert
  1. I wish I could wear hats
  2. Froghorn.exe
  3. Under Attack
  4. It's Nesting Season
  5. Don't Tell Your Wife About This Game
  6. Just One Day
  7. Beautiful Mind

Oh yeah, gonna send this one to the wife

Brian David Gilbert just does whatever he wants and it's all great. His YouTube channel blew up after his time at Polygon making a series called Unraveled and I couldn't be happier for him. He has some really stupid videos and songs, and then some genuine pieces of terror. At one point he released a video singing about the zjierbness of biting into a pickle, and then 16 days later released a unsettling analog horror video about someone who can't let go of the past. He then also sings about wanting to wearing hats.

Hidden Gem

I don't remember how I stumbled upon this album. And while EDM isn't really my thing, these songs really hit for me. His voice clashes with the music but in a way that just works. Every single song of his has less than 100,000 views, most don't even have more than 20,000. It's as indie and unknown as it goes and yet it's an album I think everyone should give a try. Worst case you hate it and swiftly move on, best case I have someone I can talk to about this hidden gem.

Coheed and Cambria
  1. Number City
  2. Wake Up
  3. The Suffering
  4. Key Entity Extraction III: Vic the Butcher
  5. Mothers of Men
  6. Keeping the Blade
  7. Goodnight, Fair Lady
  8. Mothers of Men
  9. Key Entity Extraction V: Sentry the Defiant
  10. The Hard Sell

Storytelling through song

Coheed and Cambria is a band that chose to do something different with their music. Instead of just invoking thoughts and feelings in those who listen, they decided to tell a story. My favourite story from them has to be 'The Afterman:Ascension and Descension'. It tells the story of a scientist who enters the Keywork in an attempt to understand it's mysterious energy. Beyond the story however, the music is also just incredible. There is something for everyone here, especially if you like rock bands. They've got Emo, Soft, Pop, and Progressive Rock songs.

Cody Francis
  1. It'll Be Alright
  2. Rose In The Garden
  3. We're Gonna Be Okay
  4. Wherever You're Going
  5. Mountain Air
  6. Honey Take My Hand
  7. I Don't Mind
  8. Running Circles
  9. Weather Any Storm
  10. Old Pen

Lullaby's for adults

A guilty pleasure musician for me. A lot of the music feels very safe and comforting and sometimes that's what you need from time to time. I feel like these songs would go really well with vlogs or like, old camera footage stitched together with it's audio somewhat deafened. All in all the music is really just wholesome and I am so used to songs like this being very religious, I like that there isn't any implications of that here.

Good Kid
  1. Madeleine
  2. Second Rate Town (Acoustic)
  3. Pox
  4. Alchemist
  5. David's Demo
  6. Nick's Demo
  7. Witches
  8. Drifting
  9. Everything Everything
  10. No Time to Explain

Consistently Unique

Underrated but quickly gaining popularity. Found them back when EP 2 just released and I was hooked. Madeleine is such a nice song to listen to that it quickly became my favourite, but there are really no bad songs here. I love how 'First Rate Town' is a indie rock song, but 'Second Rate Town' is re-created as a soft melody with additional lyrics added in to really make it stand out on its own. Good Kid aren't afraid to experiment either, Nick's Demo sounds like a folk ballad and it is incredible. There is so much talent here that it's hard not to love every song.

  9. Absinthe
  10. Choke

You guys aren't ready for this yet. But your kids are gonna love it.

There are so many good IDKHow songs that I really didn't know how to build this list. The top three each have some significance to me. Do It All The Time aged like fine wine about current day music being flooded with AI generated content, but it's first because it was my introduction into this band. Leave Me Alone is my favourite song for so many reasons but I really just need to give the incredible lyrics the spotlight. "Go fly a kite until you're tangled in the hanging tree" is just such a great line. And lastly 'Need You Here' deserves a mention for being one of the only songs to emotionally get to me to the point that I couldn't hold back tears. Truly an amazing band that deserves so much love.

Kyuuwaii

  2. Ramune
  3. It Will Be Okay
  4. Wake up, you're daydreaming
  5. Window
  6. Valentine
  7. Upgrade
  8. Yeah Right
  9. Nitrous
  10. I'll Just Dance

One Man Orchestra

A large majority of Kyuuiwaii's songs are covers. But what I love about them is how creative he is with the instruments. He legitimately made pen tapping sound good. I highly recommend listening to his music on youtube for the full experience, because he also has some fun with editing too. Also Ramune takes place in my home city, so some bonus points there. There are also some videos that are really fun that aren't really songs or covers. Such as 'send this to your crush without context' his music and videos are just really fun.

  5. Invisible
  6. Heavy
  7. Sorry for Now
  8. Halfway Right
  9. One More Light
  10. Sharp Edges

Started with Papercut, ended with Sharp Edges

Rest in peace, Chester Bennington. Sharp Edges is my favourite song from Liken Park, and while it's on the bottom of the list it's only there because I respect this album enough to leave it in it's order. The lyrics are so painful, the melody's are so joyful. This album in particular is why Linken Park is on here. I don't really like a lot of their other albums but the lyrics in this album really stuck with me. I view this album as Chester's legacy, even today it holds up really well as a good pop album, with incredible lyrics.

A comfortable sadness

Feelings are fatal is a song I heard a long time ago. It's a song I heavily relate to, and something I listen to often for comfort. Every lyric is well written and I am sure there are 1000s of people out there who can relate to the lyrics. Still, it introduced me to Mxmtoon and she has a lot of great songs.

  7. Don't Fear the Reaper
  8. Africa
  9. In Your Eyes
  10. Wish You Were Here

Self Harmonizing Vulnerability

Under the Covers ontop of being a creative title for an album of cover songs, was my introduction to a lot of old songs from an era before my time. The issue is, because I heard the covers first, that is my baseline for those songs, and most of the time I prefer how Dan sings them. He has such a beautiful voice and his heart is pure. Which can really be shown through 'Danny Don't You Know'. He isn't afraid to be vulnerable and I really admire him for that.

  3. Lose It
  4. All We Do
  5. Technicolour Beat
  6. Livewire
  7. Ultralife
  8. White Blood
  9. Drive

Feel Good Music

I don't have a lot to say about Oh Wonder. They're a incredible duo, that make some great songs and they've been growing steady as musicians. The music really makes you feel like you could just let go of everything and be yourself or who you want to be. Go where you want to go. Love who you want to love, or do what you want to do.

  4. Ramen
  5. Fried Rice
  6. Rice Balls
  7. Dumplings
  8. Fried Noodles
  9. She's So Nice
  10. Nickelodeon Girls

From a different era of youtube

A lot of his songs were just trying to be edgy. Afterall back when he made these he was still playing an act, a chracter. Still, there are some hidden gems within all that, Help, We Fall Again, and STFU really come through as great songs. And while there isn't much to say about the rest, the ones on this list are at least passable. If you decide to listen to some of the other songs on Pink Season, good luck and don't blame me if you hear something fucked up. You have been warned.

Puscifer
  1. The Humbling River
  2. Horizons
  3. Green Valley
  4. The Remedy
  5. Momma Sed
  6. Grand Canyon
  7. Potions

Bitches receive stitches

I was originally introduced to Tool by my Ex. I'll be honest, while I like tool it never really stuck with me. A lot of the music is great, abstract and thought provoking. But tool's tune was ever so slightly out of tune with me. Puscifer on the other hand did struck a familar tune. The Humbling River was the first song I heard from them and I loved how thought provoking it was. A lot of Puscifer songs have the same vibe, Horizons for instance is about the death of a loved one and mourning over them. It reminded me of everyone I've lost, either in death or through time and circumstance. The Remedy on the other hand made me realise how important it is to be authentic.

Ricky Montgomery
  1. Get Used to It
  2. Snow
  3. Line Without a Hook
  4. This December
  5. Talk to You
  6. Mr. Loverman

Sadness & Doubt with a side of levity

Ricky Montgomery's music gives me 2009-2012 indie rock vibes. They're all very upbeat and catchy and its easy to fall in love with a lot of his music. Which is apparent considering how popular 'Mr. Loverman' and 'Line Without a Hook' got. Get Used to It however is my favourite, mostly because it's how I feel when I falter or fail. As if the song is telling me off for expecting to be better.

  8. One Love
  9. Tired
  10. Sleepy Hollow

Soft Nihilism

An artist that started by making songs in her bedroom. Her songs are pure vibes, her energy is chaotic and introverted in all the right ways for me. If there is one song I require you to watch and not just listen, it would be 'I'll Just Dance' It really shows her energy and vibes in their entirety. Her music comes across as very pure and personal. It's not trying to be anything or grab particular audiences. It all comes across as very genuine.

  3. My Kinda Love
  4. What Happened
  5. Strapped
  6. Back With You
  7. Reruns
  8. Inside My Head

Hidden Gem

So I have a guilty pleasure, and it loosely involves this artist. I found this music through a morning lobby of Among Us. I don't play the game, but I do enjoy watching it, specifically the 'morning lobby' group. One of the players (Steven Suptic) made all of these songs and I just really love the vibes. I don't really have much to say about the music itself. But I do enjoy each song quite a lot and for an indie artist it's definitely worth checking out.

Tom Cardy
  1. Transcendental Cha Cha Cha
  2. Perception Check
  3. Business Man
  4. Hey, I don't work here
  5. Red Flags
  6. Mixed Messages
  7. H.S
  8. Why Am I Anxious?
  9. Beautiful Mind
  10. The Big Breakfast

The void wears tear away pants

If you enjoy the mixing of music and comedy, Tom has a great selection of comedic songs. Some are just stupid, others are nerdy but they are all great fun to listen to. Perception Check got some great fan animations which introduced me to his music. While Transcendental Cha Cha Cha quickly became my favourite. Red Flags & Mixed Messages on the other are some of his more well known songs and both come with some pretty great animations too.
