As someone who has a deep love for the gameplay and lore of BloodBorne, making a version of Mari within the universe was a very compelling idea. It also allows me to get art of Mari being aggressive and deadly without it feeling out of place.

Fear the old blood
With the smell of a hunter and the looks of a beast, Mari endures the hunt so no one else has to suffer the same fate as him.
Condemning the Church and it's teachings, he fight both hunter and beast.
Becoming a beast is both a physical and mental transformation, those with a strong will might just hold on to their sanity. Mari was one such case, and yet both beast and man hunt him all the same. He chooses not to hide his ears, willingly signalling his defiance to the healing church while still carrying out his purpose of hunting beasts. Wielding the Blades of Mercy that were forged to end blood-drunk hunters. They serve as a reminder of the fate waiting for him should he ever lose control.
Mari was just an average hunter of the healing church. While most had strength, skill, or were even touched by the arcane, Mari only really had a strong will and a resilient mind.
And while most hunters might've being more equipped to hunt beasts, they were also the first to turn into them.
One only becomes a beast once they've lost their humanity and give into primal urges.
And with the red moon looming above, insanity was quick to bring ruin to Yharnam and accelerate the transformation of man into beast.
And once the signs of the transformation began to appear for Mari it was no surprise that his natural reaction was to fight the transformation,
clinging onto his sense of reason and humanity.
